Losing a loved one is a huge financial burden on the family. They have to pay for funeral expenses, hospital bills, and the finances of getting the estate together if it is an adult who passed away. On top of that, if the person who passed away was a provider for the family, the family loses a large source of income. This hurts the chances of the child to be able to go to college, technical school, or community college.

We decided to create the Hope After Grief Scholarship to give hope to these families that the grieving child can pursue an education despite the loss they have undergone. It is imperative that these families feel that they have some assistance during this time and that we help lift their burden as much as we can.

Hope After Grief Inc. was established so that we could form the Hope After Grief Scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to two graduating seniors, one from Georgia and one from South Carolina. The criteria is that these students must have lost a parent/guardian or a sibling at some time in their life and they must have been accepted into a post-high school program (4- year college, technical school, or community college).

The scholarship is judged on quality of writing, financial impact of the loss, and financial assistance required for post-high school education.

We appreciate all donations to help us fund our scholarship and encourage everyone to share the scholarship application with a student they know who qualifies! Our goal is to continue to give larger scholarships to more students who need them, and we can’t do this without your help.
